Moonstone: A Feminine Look

Moonstone: A Feminine Look

When one thinks of gemstones, they don't generally think of them as being innately male or female. They don't look at a jade stone and think, “Wow, that's a manly stone.” Or upon seeing a lapis lazuli say, “Look at the feminine curves of that rock.” But it can be said that moonstone is, by far, the most feminine of all the gemstones. There is no denying that moonstone's origin, healing properties, and mental abilities are rooted in the female spirit.

For example, Moonstone is soft, both in color and in its ability to be easily scratched—as are most women. Say a harsh word to a woman and she will wear that “scratch” for as long as her memory holds out. As for color, moonstone is usually found in soft whites, blues, pinks, or yellows. Also, moonstone is associated with great goddesses of the world. The Greeks called moonstone “Aphroselene” after the goddesses of Aphrodite (love) and Selene (moon).

It is also said that moonstone is an incredible healing stone for women. It promotes natural, strong hormonal balance in women. Moonstone also helps in alleviating menstrual cramps, promotes fertility, and helps to ensure an easy pregnancy and safe delivery.

The lore of moonstone says that it calms fears—as any good mother does with her child who is afraid of the dark. The stone also encourages individuals to fall deeply in love when the moon is high and helps them to see their future together without emotional worries of fear or pain of loneliness. What an amazing stone!
